Reflective Statements
When initially reviewing the course projects I wondered how I would combine all the aspects of the course to create this final project. In some way I thought okay ill learn it to submit the assignment, but it’s been more than that for me. I have taken the course knowledge and used in my real life. I chose project 2 to revise and when I was looking for and identifying the appeals for the rhetorical analysis, I saw who the analysis and artifacts were intended for, I was identifying my audience. Then I discovered the purpose and the constraints; to inform and connect with the audience as well as who was being isolated from the circumstances. When reflecting on the artifacts I chose to re-read with perspective and re-write them with a different purpose in mind. It’s about seeing a different point of view and having a different motive when you read and review the project and different artifacts. Using terms outside of the discourse community allows for a broader audience to relate to the material and be attracted to its resources.
Something I learned when reviewing the project and artifacts multiple times is, it’s like proofreading a paper; you should always take your time, revisiting the artifact at a later time/date gives you insight and allows for you to remove any predispositions or bias on the work. Giving an open-minded and fully rounded dissertation of the materials. This was the first course where peer reviews were used, and I do really like them as it allows me to see how my point is being interpreted and if there are loose ends before the project is submitted for final review. Allows for a slight advantage to score better as well. Unfortunately, I did not receive a peer review a few times, but I appreciated the feedback the professor gave and utilized that to edit by submissions. I took breaks between my reading, writing and submission to make sure I wasn’t too invested as the author to see the constraints and opportunities in a new light. I enjoyed this course and will use the skills I acquired to see others’ points of view and the purpose of information being delivered, who it is intended for and what do I get from the material all together.
The opportunity to read the grade characteristics and reviewing the previous examples of projects gave a lot of understanding into what was being asked in the projects. It was easier for me to document what I would create once I established who my audience would be and what I was trying to portray in the material. These projects have helped in my professional career already and I have made strides in my workplace because of how this course focused on separate aspects of writing and understanding genre and context. I feel great about the work I have done in this course and the knowledge I have learned will continue to guide me through my educational, personal, and professional careers.
